THE PENN STATE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE IS ACCEPTING APPLICANTS TO ITS GRADUATE PROGRAMS.

PROFESSIONAL M.ARCH.

This three-year graduate program prepares students to become leaders in the profession of architecture. Students enroll in a two-year core curriculum that focuses on techniques, principles, histories, theories, and technologies related to the discipline. In the third year of the program, students will be able to concentrate on independent projects and investigations with faculty in one of the department’s four research clusters: Culture, Society, Space; Design Computing; Material Matters; and Sustainability.

This program is a companion to our nationally ranked, accredited Bachelor of Architecture program founded in 1910. Prospective students should have a baccalaureate degree; those with a degree in architecture may seek advanced standing in the professional Master of Architecture program.

POST-PROFESSIONAL M.S. in ARCH.
Penn State’s post-professional Master of Science in Architecture is intended for students with professional degrees in architecture. It is expected that students will have previously studied the technical and professional aspects of architectural practice and are primarily interested in strengthening the intellectual underpinnings of their work. This research-intensive graduate track is specially designed for students interested in advanced research, independent work, and academic careers.

PH.D.
The Penn State Ph.D. in Architecture is a research-focused degree supporting concentrated inquiry and pedagogy. This program is distinguished by its broad-based research core grounded in contemporary theory, methods, and practices. Students are encouraged to engage in one or more faculty research clusters, as well as to draw upon the resources of other Penn State graduate programs to enrich and broaden their scholarship.

Assistantships and partial tuition scholarships for the professional M.Arch. program are available competitively. Teaching and research assistantships are available to a select group of outstanding M.S. in Arch. and Ph.D. students. Recipients are awarded tuition grants and a stipend.
