Τhe Research Lab of Architectural Morphology and Theory of Architectural Design, in response to contemporary scientific and educational requirements of the school and the trends found in the world today, researches on the form-giving process of architectural projects through two interlinked and complementary research directions which directly feed into architectural composition and the theory of architectural design.

DIRECTION A:   HERITAGE PROTECTION, ENHANCEMENT, and MANAGEMENT

  • Theory, Methodology, and Philosophy for Heritage Protection, Enhancement, and Management.
  •  Documentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Cultural Heritage.

(Archaeological monuments and sites, Historic buildings, Traditional Settings, Industrial Heritage, Historic Urban Landscape(HUL), Cultural Landscapes, Natural sites, and environments).

  • Heritage Interpretations and Interventions through Architectural, Urban, and Landscape Planning, and Design.
  • Architectural Design as a contextual intervention to Heritage Places.

The aim of this research hub is to draw upon and create architectural knowledge through the documentation and critical appraisal of the architectural forms of the past and architectural heritage in general. It includes both the critical analysis and interpretation of programmatic morphological aesthetics of historical styles until the 20th century, as well as the morphogenetic process of traditional architecture in relation to the cultural landscape and the natural environment.

DIRECTION B:   THEORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

                                    MORPHOGENETICS OF ARCHITECTURAL WORKS

  • Theory, Methodology, and Philosophy of Architectural Design.
  • Analysis, Interpretation, and Criticism of Architectural Works.
  • Interdisciplinary Research on the Morphogenesis of Architectural Works (Philosophy, Biology, Mathematics, Computing, Linguistics, Anthropology,)

The aim of this research hub is the interdisciplinary theory of architectural synthesis (composition) and architectural design, in relation to critical considerations of contemporary morphogenetics of architectural works by employing novel and creative approaches and theories of architectural design in buildings, urban and traditional settings, the cultural landscapes, and the natural environments.
