Behaviour of building materials in relation to heat transfer processes (U-value calculation and thermal insulation evaluation, Materials’ thermal behaviour). Reference to relevant regulations (E.P.B.D., K.En.A.K., T.O.TEE., etc.). Behaviour of materials in relation to water (Condensation on the surface and interstitial condensation, calculations and protective measures). Behaviour of materials in relation to sound and noise (sound absorption, soundproofing, the role of materials in acoustic comfort conditions, influence on architectural design.). Environmental impact of the basic groups / categories of building materials (materials’ life-cycle phases, quantitative and qualitative parameters). Ecological materials and construction methods (timber, earthen and straw-bale constructions, etc.). New materials. Infrared thermography. Indoor air quality. Further understanding, through the semester project, of the basic properties and the behaviour of building materials, which is mainly quantitative and is based on calculation methods and experimental and laboratory testing.
