Systematic Analysis of Vernacular Buildings and Settlements

This module introduces students to topics of historical and cultural heritage and the pertinent methodologies for the survey and documentation of traditional settlements, aiming at contributing to the preservation, restoration and the adaptation of the historic buildings and complexes to contemporary living standards. The latter is nowadays an important social and economic demand as well as an environmental mandate. The module comprises on-site surveys with the documentation and analysis of traditional / historical settlements in Greece, focusing on the composition and layout of the residential complexes, the rchitectural, morphological and structural elements of the buildings and the assessment of their unique architectural character. The resulting material is classified according to the required specifications and posted on the School's website.
