Function has been a cornerstone of architectural design. At the same time, though, it has been fiercely criticized for dictating the way that people live in space. The course distinguishes the concepts of designed function and actual use in architecture. Students are asked to convey a series of (ethnomethodological) exercises of detailed observation of the function and usage of an existing architectural setting and to propose changes in its design.
