This course examines the problem of intergration of modern public buildings (cultural, educational, social, etc.) in an existing urban settlement with specific qualities and historic architectural values. It concerns the documentation and preservation of these values in an analytical and interpretative way, placing emphasis on issues of perception and appropriation, synthesis, and organic association between enclosed and open space, as well as the integration into the natural environment and the urban fabric.
The theoretical and design issues of "integration" and the "environmental" dimensions are treated not as specific cases of architectural design, but as a universal requirement and general theoretical framework of architectural creation.
The theoretical method and design approach, is distinguished in three directions, depending on the emphasis of individual parameters.
