Special Topics in Perspective and Geometric Applications

5th Semester
Course Code:

Type:
Elective Course
Teaching Hours:
3
Period:
Χειμερινή
Domain:
Dept. ΙΙΙ
Course Format:
Theory - Exercise
Ώρες Διδασκαλίας:
Δευτέρα 15.30-18.15 (Κτ. Μπουμπουλίνας, αιθ. Μ323, & κτ. Αβέρωφ, αμφ. Α008)

The course will be divided into two sections. In the first one, there will be an in-depth study in separate topics of perspective and visual perception, such as the following:

• Perspectives restorations.
• Perspective restorations through flat, conical and cylindrical mirrors.
• Stereoscopic perspective.
• Relief perspective.
• Visual and perspective illusions and impossible constructions (Ames room, Escher’s etc.).
• Perspective display on a curved and on an inclined board.
• Perspective principles in photography, combination of photography and perspective display, integration of perspective drawing into photography, elevation and plan reconstruction from photography.

In the second section, geometric shapes and design methods will be considered, which have been applied or could be applied to architectural projects. In this context, individual issues such as the following will be considered through the tool of algorithmic design:

• Constructions with minimal surfaces.
• Constructions with flat and curved panels.
• The geometric approach of origami.
• The geometry of tensegrities.
• Influences of constructions from independent points.
• The creation of surfaces through triangles and grids of points.
• The concept of finding the best solution to a design problem.

Students will gain knowledge from both of these directions and deliver a project.
